A great deal has happened at Record Power over the past few years, and we have fine new products to introduce and news to share from our worldwide community.
During the worst of the corona pandemic in 2020, many of us turned to woodworking as worldwide restrictions and remote work allowed more free time at home. New woodworkers poured into the market and demand for our products grew considerably. We would like to welcome the new members of the Record Power community and to thank both our new and our long-standing customers from the bottom of our hearts for their continued support and enthusiasm for the craft.
The woodworking community drew closer together during 2020 and 2021, and for many it has been important moral support and an encouraging demonstration of the strength of a creative field that matters to all of us. The spirit of the community has been particularly visible in our Live Sessions, a free remote community offering woodworking instruction and inspiration. We started the project online at the end of 2020 with the aim of bringing our worldwide community “under one roof” and offering the chance to learn from professional cabinetmakers and turners without fear of infection. This entirely free resource is open to everyone, and we welcome you if you are not already taking part.
Our production in England has continued to grow. In recent years we have developed and expanded our UK manufacturing capacity, beginning with CamVac dust extractors in 2014. Since starting CamVac production we have improved and streamlined our production process and raised our capacity, making worldwide sales of our machines possible. The newest products are high-quality turning accessories which, like CamVac and our chisel range, are made on our own premises in England by skilled designers and engineers.
A major recent investment allowed us to expand our production department; it is now the largest department in the company. This gives us the opportunity for a wider product range and greater control over the quality and the price of our products.
Our growth in UK manufacturing is part of our long-term plan to broaden our product range. Alongside the turning tools, lathe accessories and CamVac extractors made in Britain, our range also includes four high-quality SC-series chucks, jaws and the highly regarded Coronet series of lathes, comprising the Herald, Envoy and Regent models. This range is now exported to 30 countries and enables significant growth for Record Power around the world, while we create local jobs and support British manufacturing industry with our contribution.
The modern CNC machines, semi-automatic finishing technology, grinding machines and plasma cutters we use give us the flexibility and the capacity to manufacture a wide range of products to exact specifications. All of this would of course be meaningless without skilled staff, and we are proud to employ talented engineers, designers and production workers. They turn our ambitious plans into reality.
At the end of 2020 we earned the right to use the sought-after “Made in Sheffield” mark on these products, and in 2021 we had more good news: we are now part of the official “Made in Britain” organisation, which is evidence of our commitment to growing manufacturing in England. We can now proudly add the respected Made in Sheffield and Made in Britain marks to our entire range of turning chisels, lathe accessories and CamVac dust extractors, and we look forward to adding them to our expanding product range in the future.
This commitment and investment give us the means to continue designing exclusive products and offer Record Power users the best possible quality at a sensible price. Our goal is to maximise the enjoyment that woodworking and woodturning offer.
