A dovetail bit cuts the sockets and pins of a dovetail joint. It is the traditional corner joint of cabinetmaking, locking by its geometry rather than relying on glue — a drawer corner resists being pulled apart even if the glue fails.
Used in the router table with a fence or with a dovetail jig. Socket depth is set by cutter height, and it is the critical dimension: too shallow leaves the joint loose, too deep breaks the tip of the pin.
