Clamping without compressed air

This clamp needs no compressor. The vacuum is created by flipping the fasteners, so the whole operation is by hand and the clamp works where there is no air line. If the work calls for regulated, switchable suction, that is a different product: the air-powered M964.

How vacuum clamping works

A vacuum clamp does not really ”suck” the workpiece down. Air is removed from under the cup, and the clamping is done by the surrounding atmospheric pressure pressing the workpiece against the cup. Holding power therefore depends on two things: how large the sealed area is, and how well the workpiece blocks air from returning under the cup.

The seal decides

This is the single most important factor in vacuum clamping. If the workpiece passes air, or lets it in under the seal, the vacuum breaks down and the stated holding power is not reached — the fault may not be visible anywhere, the grip is simply weak.

  • Holds well: coated chipboard and MDF, melamine, laminate, plywood on the smooth face, glass, metal, stone and planed solid timber.
  • Holds poorly: rough sawn faces, unsanded surfaces, uncoated board on the edge, porous softwoods.
  • Does not hold: perforated board, mesh, fabric and porous insulation.

Cleanliness is part of the seal too: a speck of dust under the seal is a leak path. Wipe both the cup and the clamping surface before work, and test the grip before trusting it.

INSTALLMENT

A vacuum clamp for edge banding and trimming, for example on doors and worktops. The clamp attaches to the workpiece by flipping the fasteners — no compressed air or pump is needed. The rubber vacuum pads will not damage the surface of the workpiece. Each cup holds up to 34 kg. Suitable for both professionals and hobbyists.

What it is intended for

The manufacturer highlights edge banding at the top and bottom of the panel: the clamp grips the face of the panel, leaving the edge free to work on. The package contains two clamps, supplied in a case.
