The easy-to-use and cost-effective Yeti SmartBench is a good CNC router for shared workshop spaces

The members of Edinburgh Open Workshop in Scotland have been very pleased with the chance to use a SmartBench CNC router at a DIY workshop for a small usage fee.

Edinburgh Open Workshop is a shared space with fully equipped wood, metal, paint and textile workshops. As well as working on their own projects, people can take part in courses and training. Staff on site guide users when needed. In a shared space you can come and work as the need arises, and the member pays only for the time they use the space and its machines (pay as you go). The premises also house early-stage companies and startups as longer-term tenants.

A safe machine makes shared use possible

The DIY workshop in Edinburgh was looking for a cost-effective CNC router, because having CNC work done by outside firms was expensive. The unique, portable full-sheet Yeti SmartBench turned out to be perfect for them and their members.

The SmartBench CNC router is available to Edinburgh Open Workshop's members easily and at a reasonable price. Without it, members would have to have the CNC work for their projects done by specialist firms at considerably greater cost.

With the machine in place, Edinburgh Open Workshop can offer a range of CNC services. They run CNC training for beginners, rent out the SmartBench to members and carry out CNC work to customer order.

The Yeti SmartBench has been in heavy use at the DIY workshop

So far, signs and workbenches among other things have been machined on the Yeti SmartBench at Edinburgh Open Workshop. In the near future the plan is also to bring in the Yeti CNC Stylus, which can do large-scale drawing work and vinyl cutting.

Edinburgh Open Workshop is pleased to have bought the SmartBench for the workshop. “It is an easy-to-use and affordable workhorse. Financially it is on course to pay for itself in under a year, despite the fact that we were closed for six months because of the Covid-19 lockdowns.”

Do you need a high-quality CNC router for shared use?

We run SmartBench demonstrations at our premises in Rovaniemi. Demonstrations can also be arranged at our partners in Tampere, Porvoo and Ritvala, and over a remote connection. If a movable full-sheet CNC router could suit your need, fill in a demonstration request. We are happy to tell you more about the Yeti SmartBench and answer your questions.

Our webshop carries three different Yeti SmartBench CNC routers as well as the Yeti CNC Stylus plotter and vinyl cutter. If you would like to see more customer examples of the SmartBench in use, they can be found on Yeti Tool's pages. The articles are in English.
