A professional set of ten solid carbide engraving bits. The point angle is 36° and the line widths are 0.10, 2 × 0.20, 0.30, 2 × 0.50, 0.60, 0.70, 1.00 and 1.50 mm. The shank is 3 mm.
What separates this set from cheap bits is the clearance and relief grinding and a sharper cutting edge. The clearance sits immediately behind the edge and stops the bit rubbing against the material behind it — without it the finish is poor and the tool wears quickly. On a narrow bit, 0.1–0.5 mm line width, the clearance is only 0.03–0.15 mm, so grinding accuracy decides the result.
The narrower the engraving, the more critical the milling motor's runout becomes. At 0.02–0.05 mm the benefit of the clearance disappears entirely and in practice only bits from 1.2 mm upwards work. This set lets you go finer, provided the spindle is accurate.
